WTCH AM 960 and 96.1 FM is pleased to recognize Idell Johnston as February’s Community Helper. She and her husband own the State Farm in Downtown Shawano.
She’s also a member of several local organizations, including Junior Achievement.
“JA is one where you can go in and make a difference and teach children about what’s going to happen when they grow up,” Johnston said.
As a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Johnston also works with a little sister that she has been matched up with for over three years.
She also works with the exchange program within the Rotary Club. The club consist of professionals in the community.
As the Scholarship Chair for Dollars for Scholars, Johnston loves helping local students.
“You know, I was raised by parents who, we didn’t have much and they weren’t able to give monetarily,” she said. “They taught me at a very young age that you can give your time and sometimes that’s more valuable than any dollar amount you can give.
Her passion for helping others doesn’t stop with humans.
“I also like horses,” Johnston said, noting her involvement with Red River Riders for the past six years.
“Before I went out I really didn’t have horse experience,” she said. “They’ll train you and they’ll have you do what you’re comfortable doing.”
