The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is working with the county Highway Department and the state Department of Transportation to make the intersection of Hwy. 29 and County Road U safer.
He said they have worked on rerouting traffic as well as putting up signs… t use to be a one lane highway that was designed for 55 miles per hour. He says that area is not equipped to handle two lanes at 65 mph. They hope improve that intersection in three years. Until then, the sheriff is urging drivers to use caution.
“Just be patient through that intersection,” Bieber said. “Hold at the stop sign for a few seconds because everybody who uses that intersection knows that traffic heading westbound disappears underneath that hill.”
Bieber also says to not try crossing both directions of traffic at the same time.
