A Colorado man was charged by the Shawano District Attorney in connection with a weekend shooting that prosecutors believe was spurred by a drug deal gone bad.
20-year-old Kevon Houston faces charges of first degree reckless Injury, first degree recklessly endangering safety and a charge of delivering cocaine.
According to the criminal complaint filed today, Houston acknowledged firing his gun but said he was doing so to keep a crowd of people away from his car.
The complaint states that Denisha Sanapaw told investigators that she purchased drugs from Shania Teller at a party at a Shawano apartment complex on the 1000 block of E. Fifth St. Sanapaw became upset because she said the drugs tasted like “laundry detergent”.
Sanapaw told investigators that she wanted her money back and went outside. According to the complaint, she allegedly confronted Teller’s boyfriend, Alexander Olson. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car with Houston sitting in the back.
At that time, the complaint states that Kevon Houston leaned out of the car, pointed a gun and told a crowd of people to back up. According to the complaint, Sanapaw told Houston that she did not believe he would shoot. When Sanapaw turned around, she told investigators that heard two gunshots.
The car then drove off and it was at that time that witnesses realized the 31-year-old woman had been shot.
She is still in hospital, authorities say she is expected to recover.
