George E. Clayton, age 81 of Shawano, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Wednesday evening, January 17, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Shawano at Maple Lane.
George was born November 14, 1936 in Shawano, a son of the late Clyde and Agnes (Baumgartener) Clayton. He attended school in Shawano, graduating from Shawano High School in 1955. He was united in marriage to the former Diane Graf in Shawano. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Shawano where George worked as a roofer. The couple then moved to Appleton where he worked as a machinist. In 1964 George and Diane moved to Milwaukee where they raised their family. Diane preceded George in death on August 29, 1992. George continued working for several years, retiring in 1995 and moving to Breed, Wisconsin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycling. He built custom racing motors and spent many hours watching them run.
Survivors include his sons, Scott (Mary) Clayton of Brookfield and Brett Clayton of Milwaukee; his constant companion, Louise Christensen; sisters, Marie Wagner, Edith Raddant, and Sally (Don) Braatz; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services for George E. Clayton will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Todd Raether will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM and continue until the time of service. Interment will take place on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee.
