A rest area on Highway 45 in Marion has been shut down.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says this is partly due to the closure of Waupaca County Industries (WCI) which has been a contracted service provider to the rest stop. WCI has been a workplace for adults with disabilities for nearly three decades that will be closing at the year’s end after the Waupaca County said it wasn’t economically feasible to keep it open.
WisDOT said that the Highway 45 rest area received fewer visitors than any other in the state. They believe the closure will save about $100,000 annually.
