The Shawano Area Food Center will continue to have its utility bills paid by Shawano County. Officials approved a memorandum of understanding to that effect this week. Utility bills for the food center are as high as 12-thousand dollars a year. The county will give the money to the city, and the city will pay the bill, since questions have been raised about whether it’s legal for the county to do so. The Shawano Area Food Center, part of the national Feed America program, distributes food to 21 food pantries.
