Waupaca County Sheriff Officials are planning on filing charges for more than 20 suspected drug dealers by the end of the November. A crack down on suspected heroin, narcotics and methamphetamine dealers has been a focus of the Sheriff’s Department since 2015. Months of investigation have taken place, leading to this development. Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel said the investigations can take some time to complete. The investigations have been started from suspicious activity reports. Investigators arrange to make purchases from the dealers. Hardel said that there is some coloration between some heroin dealers and pending burglary cases. While most of the heroin is coming through Milwaukee, the epidemic is spreading. Sheriff Hardel also noted that the county’s rise in property crimes could be connected to the drug epidemic. Right now, the focus is primarily in Waupaca, but the hope is to soon include other areas such as Clintonville and New London.
