The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office says one deputy was wounded during an exchange of gunfire at about 3 p.m. Friday in New London.
The standoff occurred on Manske Road where authorities say they were dispatched on an arrest warrant for 62-year-old James D. Dax, who was wanted for domestic abuse and aggravated battery.
When authorities arrived, Dax allegedly began opening fire at officers, which is when a bullet struck a deputy, according to a press release. He was treated for a non-life threatening injury.
Dax is being held on recommended charges of attempted homicide for shooting at the officers. He has yet to be formally charged in court.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene and the incident is under investigation.
