A special celebration is only a month away for Safe Haven Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Support Center.
On Sept. 29 the shelter will provide more details of their anticipated expansion in what they’re calling “The Big Reveal.”
“On that date we will be unveiling the plans, so people can see what the building will look like once it is built,” says Safe Haven Executive Director Stacey Cicero. “We’ll be also celebrating our anniversary and also recognizing our valuable volunteers for all of the service they provide to us.”
The Big Reveal comes as Safe Haven celebrates their 25th year as a domestic abuse program and 15th year providing shelter to domestic abuse victims. Cicero adds that it’s amazing to see how far Safe Haven has come during those years.
“If you think about it, 25 years isn’t all that long for a program to exist and 15 years as a shelter-and I’ve been there all 15 years of the shelter programming-and just to see where we’ve started and where we’ve come is just absolutely incredible,” she said.
Last year the shelter provided safe housing for 55 women and 67 children and took over 2,000 crisis calls from 935 people. The Big Reveal will be held at The Gathering as a dinner event and Cicero says they’re putting a lot of work into the event
“We’re really putting together a neat program for the event, so if you’ve ever wanted to learn more about Safe Haven, support our cause, or wanted to know more ways to get involved, either by volunteering or helping with our programming this would be a great event to attend.”
Tickets are $25 and advanced registration is appreciated. More information and invitation cards can be found at their website ShawanoShelter.org.
