Joanne S. Morrison, age 80, of Tigerton (formerly of New Berlin) passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Pride TLC Therapy & Living Campus, Weston.
The former Joanne Shirley Smith was born on January 30, 1937 in Superior, Wisconsin, to Peter and Lillian (Johnson) Smith. Joanne grew up in Superior and graduated from Central High School in 1955. She was united in marriage on September 15, 1956 to James P. Schrauth in Ashland, Wisconsin, and in the 1970’s the couple was separated. Joanne was employed for many years as an executive secretary at Advanced Transportation in Milwaukee. On February 27, 1982 she was married to Gerald L. Morrison in Las Vegas. Joanne lived most of her life in the New Berlin area. Her interests included dancing, going to the casino, and playing in numerous cribbage tournaments. The couple loved to square dance and belonged to a dance club in the New Berlin area for some time. Her husband preceded her on January 25, 2014. Then Joanne moved north and settled in Tigerton with her sister. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Joanne always enjoyed her trips to Canada to visit and help out at her daughter’s orchard. She will be remembered most for her fun loving attitude and her beautiful smile.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy (Allen) Reid of British Columbia, Canada; and four grandchildren, Michael Reid, Andrea (Nathan) Barron, David (Heidi) Reid, and Viki (Damian) McGuinness. There are four step children and five great grandchildren. There is one sister, Patricia Barker of Tigerton; three nieces, Nanette (Timm) Schernecker of Lake Mills, WI, Gina (Eric) Buss of Minneapolis, MN, and Angela (Brian) Weber of Weston; and two nephews, David (Marci) Barker of Lander, WY, and John (Elizabeth) Barker of Loveland, CO. Joanne is further survived by many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, and a brother-in-law Walter Barker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 13th at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. Fr. Jose Castaneda will officiate and burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin. Friends may call on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting the family.
