Residents in Shawano may want to be more mindful about locking the doors to their vehicles
“Theft from vehicles are still going up since the first of the year,” said Shawano Interim Police Chief Dan Mauel. “We’re at 22 now and only three of those were locked and broken into.”

“They’re taking flashlights, looking in the windows and if they can see a valuable that they can sell or somebody is asking them to find, they’re going into those unlocked cars and stealing whatever is left out,” said Interim Chief Mauel. “Hide your valuables, lock your vehicles, lock you your houses, lock your garages. It’s all common sense stuff.”
There have been also 10 instances of cars being reported stolen in Shawano and all 10 were unlocked with keys left inside.
