A busy weekend is upcoming at Navarino Nature Center, including another popular blooming hike, featuring guest Naturalist Matt Welter. Many have expressed interest in the mushroom hike last month with Matt, but Navarino Wildlife Naturalist Kaylee Lietz says this month’s hike will feature more than that.
“It’s not strictly mushrooms, but if you find mushrooms, they’ll talk about the mushrooms,” she said. “They’ll talk about ferns, they’ll talk about flowers, things like that, so that’s just something new they’re trying this year. There’s one happening every month.”
Hikers may even have the opportunity to find something edible while on the walk.
“Whether it is a mushroom or not, they’ll cook it up and show you how to cook it properly,” Lietz said.
The hike will be held Saturday 9 a.m. until noon and will cost is $10 a person. Navarino Nature Center will also be having their voyage down the Wolf River on their 25-foot long voyager canoes. That begins at 9 a.m. as well.
