Joan M. Anklam, age 68, of rural Tigerton (Town of Wyoming) passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.
The former Joan Marie Kauss was born on June 19, 1948 in Tigerton to Arthur and Marcella (Marquardt) Kauss. She graduated from Tigerton High School in 1966. Joanie and Fred eloped to Gainesville, FL, to be united in marriage on April 20, 1970. They returned to the area and made their home in Big Falls for the next nine years. In 1979 the couple settled in the current residence in the Town of Wyoming, Waupaca County. Joanie worked for 25 years for Alfred Knitt at the Marion Hardware Store. The hardware store sold to Dave Barnick becoming the Marion Home Center and she continued working another 9 years, retiring in 2012.
Joanie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. She enjoyed working in her garden growing beautiful flowers and lots of vegetables which she canned. Joanie volunteered countless hours with the Guardian Angels in Tigerton with all sorts of fundraisers and service projects to help others in need. She especially liked being around people to socialize and her smile always lit up the room. Joanie will be remembered most as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Fred; one daughter, Kelly (Darin) Anklam-Wendt of Lodi; one grandson, Brock Wendt; and her mother, Marcella Kauss of Tigerton. There are three sisters, Bonnie Rohlinger of Stevens Point, Nancy Kauss of Stevens Point, and Kathy (Jack) Knaup of Tigerton; and one brother-in-law, Bob Freckmann of Stevens Point. There are three sisters-in-law, Arlene Schultz of Stevens Point, Verna Graham of New London, and Kristine (Randy) Hugley of Green Bay; and a brother-in-law, Jim (Judy) Anklam of Big Falls. Joanie is further survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Arthur, a sister Sally Freckmann, a sister-in-law Julia (Leo) Pinney, and two brothers-in-law Chester Schultz and Tom D. Graham.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 20th at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton, with Rev. Matthew Uttenreither officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting the family.
