
James M. “Chum” Waupoose, Sr. age 63 of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday morning, January 8, 2017 at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano where he had been a resident for five days.
Chum was born June 14, 1953 in Keshena, a son of the late Mitchell and Charlotte (Tepiew) Waupoose. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Following school, he went to work as a logger. On July 19, 2003 he was united in marriage to the former Rose Pyatskowit in Keshena. He is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena.
Chum was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed woodworking, and was pretty handy at fixing things. He never did much without a good chew of snuff. He was a fan of boxing.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, of Keshena; his children, Angel Waupoose, James (Christine Tourtillott) Waupoose, Jr., Amy Hernandez, Kristy (Space) Wilber, Sharon (Mark) Lyons, Diane Nacotee, Eliott (Jessie Warrington) Nacotee, and Erin (Robert Caldwell); his grandchildren, Michael, Meranda, Trevon, James, Mitchell, Hunter, Tasheena, David, Damon, Nelson Jr., Shawntae, Kyle, Tyler, D.J., Mark Jr., Maurice, Mariano, Merissa, Mareya, Allyn, Ayesha, Autumn, Ashlyn, Anthony, Summer, Cruz, Nayana, and Cameron; his great-grandchildren, Jesenia. Ofelia, Matthias, Mya, Braylon, and Landon. He is further survived by his sisters, Charlotte (Snuffy) Shawanokasic, Michelle (Heath) Rindt, Mary (Chuck)Kaminecki, Eleanore Waupoose, Elaine Barker, and Charlene Lyons; his brothers, William (Lori) Waupoose and David Waupoose; and many nieces and nephews.
Chum was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Angie Wapoose Merino; his sisters, Viola Meyer, Niki Lyons, Beatrice Waupoose, Rosella Delacruz, and Peanut Waupoose; and his brothers, Gary, Chud, Jimmy and Putzer Lyons, Jake Waupoose, and Carl Phillipi.
A Funeral Mass for James “Chum” Waupoose will be celebrated on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. Father Joel Jores will be the Celebrant. Relatives and friends may call after 5:00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the South Branch Community Center until 10:00 AM Thursday morning, when the procession leaves for church.
