The New London Police Department has received two reports this past week of a scam on Craigslist involving a house rental in Hortonville. The house that appears to be for rent is located at 106 Spring St. in the village.
The person a that posted the ads on the website is requesting a deposit be sent to them in Indiana via the Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart money transfer. According to complaints, they then contact the victim by phone and email to request a down payment for the house.
New London Police suggest that if you do not know the person that you are sending money to, don’t send it.
Some safety reminders from police to keep in mind while on Craigslist are making sure to always deal face-to-face, do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person, never wire funds, and never give out any personal financial information.
