Niagara Scores 9 Unanswered Runs To Top Waupun
Niagara came from behind to beat Waupun in an elimination game of the State Tournament Friday afternoon. Waupun scored 8 runs in the first five innings, but could not hold the lead after Niagara got their bats going for one inning. Niagara plated nines on six hits. Waupun starting pitcher Reece Homan walked the bases loaded and walked in two runs, while hitting a batter which scored another. Drew Behling came on in relief, and also struggled to find the strike zone. Homan was responsible for 7 runs and Behling gave up 2 and took the loss. The two combined for 8 walks, most took place in the sixth inning.
Waupun captured the lead in the second inning. Baron Buchholz singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Waupun Post 210 scored three runs in the fifth inning. Waupun Post 210’s big inning was driven by a single by Buchholz and a double by Jak Lenz.
Hunter Kaldor earned the win for Niagara Post 136. He threw two innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking zero. Buchholz, Ryan Panten, Lenz, and Homan each collected multiple hits for Waupun Post 210. Homan, Lenz, Panten, and Buchholz each managed two hits to lead Waupun Post 210.
