Dohn L. Heling, age 64 of the Town of Waukechon, Shawano, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018 at his home.
Dohn was born February 11, 1954 in Shawano, a son of Donna (Maltbey) Heling and the late Vernon Heling. Dohn attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School in 1972. Following high school he was employed at the Equity Co-Op. On June 12, 1976, Dohn was united in marriage to the former Jennifer L. Boerst at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple lived in the Town of Waukechon for most of their married life. They were blessed with one daughter, Amanda. Dohn was employed by the Shawano County Highway Department, retiring after 30 plus years of service. Jennifer preceded him in death on February 26, 2016.
Dohn is a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He loved to hunt, shoot both trap and sporting clays, shooting pool, and playing darts. He spent hours at Pleshekâs Tree Farm, trimming trees in the summer and helping people find their perfect Christmas tree in the late fall. Dohn also served several terms as the Town of Waukechon Chairman. He truly had the gift of gab!
Survivors include his loving daughter, Amanda (Michael) Schroeder of Shawano; three wonderful grandchildren, Anabelle, Wyatt, and Owen Schroeder; his mother Donna Heling of Shawano; his brothers, Virgil Heling and Mark (Sandy) Heling both of Shawano, and Mitchell (Carol) Heling of DePere; his sister, Patti (Bullet) Bohm of Shawano; his mother-in-law, Linda Boerst of Clintonville, two brothers-in-law, Mike Boerst of Shawano and Mark (Debbie) Boerst of Bonduel; sister-in-law, Amy Boerst of Greendale, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Heling; his father-in-law, Myron Boerst; and his brother-in-law, Miles Boerst.
Funeral services for Dohn L. Heling will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 12:30 PM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Steve Schauder will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the time of service. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials be made in his name to St. James Lutheran School in Shawano.
