Shawano residents could be looking at the second highest tax increase in the city’s history. At last night’s finance committee meeting, a proposal was discussed that would basically increase taxes about 45 dollars on a $100,000.00 home. One of the reasons for the increase are position changes in the city that add to the budget. City administrator Brian Knapp, who also works for Shawano Utilities, would move to the Utilities full time. Assistant administrator and Public Works Coordinator Eddie Sheppard would step into Knapp’s role, but a replacement would then be needed for Sheppard, increasing the city’s budget.
