Wilmington, North Carolina resident, Makenit Healy and her mother Patricia Chapman, both with Keshena roots, just gained power back after 8 days of patiently waiting. However, as rivers continue to rise, Makenit states that dams are now breaking. The pair are often back in Wisconsin with family who all still live on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
Despite pleas from family to leave the area and seek shelter with Wisconsin family members, Makenit and Patricia decided to stay and wait out the storm.
CBS radio news reports the death toll to be 42 as of 9-21-2018.
