The Waupaca School Board is discussing implementing a second police-liaison officer for the district. The discussions began in June. The current police-liaison position is funded 75 percent by the district, and 25 percent by the city of Waupaca, where the officer works when school is not in session. School officials estimate the cost to the district of an additional officer would be about 60-thousand dollars annually. Waupaca schools did receive a 120-thousand dollar school safety grant from the state, but the grant does not allow for expenses related to personnel. Of similar-sized schools around the state, only Rhinelander and Cudahy have two police-liaison officers.
