There’s several changes in store for folks attending the Oconto County Fair this year, which opens today with horse, dog, cat and small animal shows. The most significant changes relate to the midway and band performances Friday and Saturday nights, Aug. 17 to 18. Concerning the midway, there are no carnival rides this year. The reason for the change is because last year’s carnival company asked to be released from its contract. To replace those activities, the Fair Board has arranged for Creative Sound & Entertainment, to provide a variety of activities for youths. The Michigan company offerings include bounce houses, wall climbing, bubble soccer, an obstacle course, three-line bungee rope, a carousel walk, a castle maze, a basketball shooting game, and boxing with oversize soft rubber gloves. The games will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a $10 wristband, sold at the fair information window, will provide access to the games all day. The entertainment Thursday night is shifting as well. Instead of band, for the first time at the fair, a karaoke contest will be held. The contest starts at 7 p.m. at the Budweiser Stage, adjacent to the beer stand operated by the fair. It will also be “Buck Beer Night” where thirsty fair-goers can get a beverage for just $1.
