After a third death at a state natural area the state and county park officials discussed how to stay safe in the wilderness. They suggest doing a bit of research about the site before hiking, have a map, water and first aid supplies. They also suggest bringing a compass or using the app on the phone as its easy to get turned around in dense forest. Officials also agree its best to travel in groups but if youre going alone to be sure to inform somebody of location and when you may be back. All this stems from a 19 year old Fond Du Lac man falling to his death off a cliff last Friday. He was swinging from a branch when it snapped and he fell down a cliff where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
