Four Oconto County school districts were awarded School Safety Grants by the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Oconto Falls, Suring, Coleman and Wabeno were among 89 districts receiving money in the latest block of grants made under a program approved by Legislature about three months ago. Oconto Falls was awarded $122,496, Once schools have met minimum security thresholds and staff training requirements, advanced safety grant funds can be applied to a wider range of projects, including school public address system upgrades, trauma-informed care of students, threat assessment and prevention, electronic access control and school surveillance equipment. Suring received $38,502, which will pay for adding 12 cameras to the building to cover blind spots within the school.
