The Oconto County Board is urging the state Department of Transportation to improve the intersection of State 22 and Oconto County J. A resolution approved last week requests that WisDOT “consider the proper remedy to the line of sight vision issue” at the intersection about 4 miles west of Oconto. Because of the grade vehicles traveling at 55 miles per hour can’t be seen by motorists either crossing the intersection or turning eastbound from J onto to 22 until they’re just 6.5 to 7 seconds away. The county and Oconto Town Board is hoping to convince WisDOT to make the improvement, as WisDOT is planning to resurface 22 from State 141 to State 41 in 2020. At a public meeting in March where WisDOT officials outlined the project, more than 60 people attended, and a majority encouraged them to do something to that intersection.
