As many Wisconsin residents dig out from storm damage that came through last week, they need to be aware of scam artists looking to make a quick buck. Law enforcement calls these groups “storm chasers” and they show up in areas damaged by severe weather to offer repair work to homes. State Consumer Protection Director Michelle Reinen says if you do need work done on your home, you should find someone local to do it. (click play to hear Reinen)
Reinen reminds you to always ask for contracts, information and permits before accepting work from a contractor that shows up at your door, and if they sound shady, call your local law enforcement.
