A Green Bay native may reach a plea agreement after a deadly naval crash. Navy Commander Bryce Benson from Wisconsin is facing potential court martial after the ship he commanded, the USS Fitzgerald, struck a commercial vessel off the coast of Japan in June 2017 killing seven American sailors. Benson waived an Article 32 hearing which was preliminary hearing for his case to see if there is enough evidence. This decision leads many to think Benson has a plea deal in the works. If court marshaled, he’d be the first naval officer in almost three decades.
