With the sale of the Shawano library to the county still up in the air, city officials this week opted to move money back into the library maintenance fund they had previously zeroed out for 2018. The city did not set aside anything in its 2018 capital improvements budget to fund library repairs, maintenance or maintenance-related supplies because it was expected the county would assume ownership of the building around the first of the year. The county was expected to purchase the library building for $1, and the parking lot for an additional $1, as part of its countywide library consolidation plan. The deal quickly took a complicated turn when the city included a deed restriction in the agreement stating the parking lot would continue to be available for all public parking as well as library parking.
