The Shawano Tree Advisory Committee has announced they are moving their Arbor Day celebration back due to the past snow storm. The event will now be held at the United Cooperative Park located at 1000 East Mauer Street at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 2nd. The event will include a proclamation read by Mayor Ed Whealon, Presentation of the Tree City USA award for the 24th year by DNR Regional Urban Forester Tracy Salisbury, Presentation of the Tree Line USA award for the 15th year given to Shawano Municipal Utilities, Presentation of the Growth Award for the 8th year in a row, Presentation of a check for $2,000 for tree planting, then the community Nature’s Friend awards going to Todd and Sarah Swedberg for the Residential award, and NISC for the Commercial Award. The fourth graders from Olga Brenner, St. James School, and Sacred Heart School will plant the Ceremonial tree, also each school will receive a three year old seedling tree for the Fourth Grade Students with Thanks to DNR Forester Travis Larson. The public is invited to attend this event on May 2nd.
