Geraldine L. Belongia, age 87 of Appleton, formerly of Gresham, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 18, 2018 at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Appleton.
Geraldine was born January 29, 1931 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Pearl (Ewer) Douglas. She attended Ladysmith schools, and graduated from Ladysmith High School. She then attended art school. On January 5, 1952 she was united in marriage to Harold J. Belongia in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1985. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Dayton, Ohio and Green Bay before setting in Gresham in 1972.
Geraldine was a wife and homemaker, staying home to raise her children. She is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham. She loved her family, drawing, and playing cards. She was also a good storyteller.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark (Cathy) Belongia of Appleton, Bruce Belongia of Appleton, Glen (Earlene) Belongia of Bakersfield, Harold Belongia of Appleton, and Richard (Susan) Belongia of Shawano; twenty grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy VerHoeven of Appleton; her daughter-in-law, Judy Belongia of Seymour and Sue Belongia of Green Bay; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her sons, John and Wayne Belongia; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter; her sisters, June Bosmans, Audrey Wydeven, Arla Douglas, and Faye Gerrits; and her brother, Lawrence Douglas.
Funeral services for Geraldine will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:30 AM at the Chapel at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Janice Belongia-Ingram will officiate. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Chapel at Highland Park in Appleton from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
