The Shawano Common Council adopted a non-lethal management plan this week to deal with a growing population of Canada geese at Smalley Park and Huckleberry Harbor. City officials voted unanimously to accept the Shawano Park and Recreation Commission’s recommendation last week to use harassment and other measures to drive the geese away, dropping plans for rounding up and euthanizing the birds and oiling their eggs to keep them from hatching. The commission went with the non-lethal plan after hearing from dozens of people who objected to the euthanization at a public hearing.
