Three More of Shawano’s Police officers have now completed Crisis Intervention training. Officers have been learning about Major Mental Illnesses, auditory hallucinations, personality disorders and de-escalation along with a number of other topics. The goal of the training is to improve responses to people in crisis.
CIT programs enhance communication and identify mental health resources for assisting people in crisis. The officers that took part in this training included Officers Scott Ruen, Brandy Hoffman and Sam Ferg-Meshnick. According to Shawano Police Chief Dan Mauel they now have 8 officers who have completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. Our goal is to have every one of our officers complete this training within a year.
