DNR board members want the agency to change the terminology used to describe counties that are affected by chronic wasting disease.
The DNR currently list 47 counties affected by CWD on its website. That means that the county has either had a deer test positive or lies within 10 miles of another county that has had a positive test. Board members says this makes it sound as if 47 counties are infected, which drives hunters out of state.
They suggest using the term “watch counties” and to only count counties that currently have CWD.
