WTCH AM 960 and 96.1 FM, The Shawano Leader and the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce will provide Shawano voters with a first-hand opportunity to to hear the three mayoral candidates views and positions.
The 2018 Shawano Mayoral Candidates Forum will be held at the Shawano Middle School. All three candidates—incumbent Mayor Jeanne Cronce, retired businessman, Jim Oberstein, and retired Shawano Police Chief Ed Whealon—will participate. The free event will be staged in the school’s LGI beginning at 7 p.m. and concluding at 8:30 p.m.
The forum will be held a week before the non-partisan primary election. The top two vote-getters will face off in the city’s general election on April 3.
Cronce and Oberstein faced off in the last Shawano mayoral general election in 2016 when Cronce edged Oberstein 1,434 to 1,290. Whealon’s campaign for the city’s chief executive post marks his first foray into politics. Whealon retired as the city’s chief of police in 2014 following a 34-year career with the police force, the last 12 serving as the city’s top law enforcement officer.
The forum will be moderated by Chuck Dallas, president of iConsult, Inc., a business management and tax consulting practice. Vance Exner, TCHDailyNews.com’s Local News Director and Tim Ryan, veteran Shawano Leader reporter, will comprise the panel questioning the candidates during the forum.
