Irvin H. Rosenberg, age 92 of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 2, 2018 at ThedaCare Medical Center in Shawano.
Irv was born March 4, 1925 in Shawano, a son of the late Robert and Lydia (Ebert) Rosenberg. Irv served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was discharged after three years of service on May 21, 1946 at Great Lakes, IL.
On September 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Geiger. In 1960, Irv became a Shawano County Traffic Officer, a position he held until 1962 when he went to work at the post office in Shawano. On October 12, 1968 Irv was confirmed by the United States Senate as Postmaster of Shawano.
Irv is a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano where he served as an usher. He was also a member of Shawano American Legion Post #117, serving as Commander, a member of the Voiture 40 et 8. He is a past member of the Shawano Rotary Club, the Shawano Club, the National Association of Postmasters, and the League of Postmasters. He was an avid golfer who spent many hours at the Shawano area golf courses. Following his retirement on January 1, 1986, he and Shirley enjoyed many winters in Destin, Florida. When in Shawano Irv rarely missed a morning at McDonalds, where all of the world events were discussed, and problems solved.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley, of Shawano; two daughters, Peggy (Kim) Anderson, and Terry Rosenberg, both of Green Bay; three granddaughters, Lexie (Phil) Beaudry, Jacqueline O’Reilly, and Brittany Rosenberg-O’Reilly; his great-granddaughter, Aria Beaudry; and his sister, Angaline Dobratz of Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Rosenberg; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Dobratz and Wayne Geiger; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Melms and Florence Rosenberg.
A funeral service for Irvin H. Rosenberg will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The Rev. Dr. Timm Griffin will officiate. Private burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will begin at 10:00 and continue until 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials in Irv’s name to St. James Lutheran Church.
