There was a lot of hype around Xavier’s boys basketball team this year. It didn’t take Shawano long to confirm that all the attention is warranted.
Xavier jumped out to a 16-4 lead and finished the first half with 69 points en route to a 109-60 win. Hunter Plamann had 20 of his game-high 24 in the first half.
“We ran into a little bit of a buzz saw here tonight,” Shawano head coach David Ambrosius said after the game. “Coming into their gym, they’ve won 50 straights games in here now, and that’s not by accident, they’re very good.”
It was the third game that Xavier (4-0) has scored at least 100 points. They hit 16 3-pointers, including a buzzer-beater from beyond half court to end the first half.
Ambrosius feels confident that his team will bounce back but knows that there are improvements that need to be made.
“We have to add a little more IQ to our effort and I think we’ll get there,” Ambrosius said.
Nick Grignon led Shawano (2-2) with 15 points. They host Green Bay West on Thursday.
