The DNR has released the numbers from this years nine-day gun deer season. Across the state, 195,738 deer were harvested, that’s the second lowest amount in the last thirty-five years. But in the Northern Region, there was an increase in deer killed. 26,437 antlered deer were harvested in the northern forest zone which is a 12.7% increase from last year. The 15,220 antlerless deer that were registered in the region is a 70% increase over last year. Shawano County and Waupaca County finished second and third behind Marathon for the most deer registered last week. About 600,000 Wisconsin hunters took part in the gun deer season. There were ten thousand more kids that participated this year than in 2016. It was since the minimum age hunting law was eliminated.
