The Common Council today will consider the extra wheel tax for vehicles in Shawano County. The total would be $10 and it would go toward paying for “transportation related purposes,” according to the wording in the agenda for the next meeting. If the new ordinance is approved by the board, it would go into effect in March. Also on the agenda for today’s meeting, a resolution voicing opposition to any change in state law that would require the city to take the proposed wheel tax to a public vote. A bill currently before the state assembly would require a public referendum before any local government could enact a so-called wheel tax.
