Mark Andrew Husby, age 80, of La Motte Lake, Keshena, left this world on Sunday, October 15, 2017, to begin his incredible journey into the Spirit World. This will be his ultimate adventure surpassing all of his other varied exploits. Mark was born July 18, 1937 to the late Elmer and Ellen (Madden) Husby and grew up on the family farm in Jacksonport, Door Co. His curiosity, passion and zest for life became immediately apparent and would continue to be a major driving force throughout the years.
Mark attended parochial and public schools in the area and graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1956. While in high school, he was a star athlete, exceling in both football and wrestling. After enlisting in the Air Force with hopes to become a pilot, he continued to play football for the service. While training, his color blindness was discovered and life determined a different direction for him. After intense background checks and other investigative inquiries, Mark was selected to enter a special intelligence unit with the Air Force. The work performed was classified but his special assignment was to work as a weather analyst, both in Japan as well as at St. Lawrence Island off the coast of Russia.
On September 18, 1965, Mark was united in marriage to Mary L. Skubitz in Keshena. Throughout the years, Mark worked as a logging contractor, in commercial fishing, as an insurance agent, worked for the railroad, at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee, worked on the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as served as the Coroner and as an EMT for Menominee County. In his free time, Mark enjoyed hunting fishing, reading and scuba diving while in Japan. Mark was well known for his story-telling, wit and humor.
Mark is survived by: his wife, Mary; four children, David, Leah, Daniel (Tanaes Washinawatok) and Paul; four grandchildren, Miranda Washinawatok, Peter J. Husby, Natalie Husby and Emory Husby. He is further survived by three sisters, Mary (Ralland) Rohr, Margaret (William) Sampone and Catherine Gerdmann; one sister-in-law, Kris Husby Nelson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Jon Eric Husby; his parents; and three brothers, Peter J., John T. and Maurice Husby.
Funeral services for Mark will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with Rev. Joel Jores and Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, on Friday from 8:00 – 11:00 am at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano and again at the church on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
