Laatsch Shows What He Can Do Through The Air
Shawano quarterback Jarrett Laatsch has been the key to the Hawks offense this season, but until Saturday, it was only on the ground. Laatsch threw his first three touchdowns of the season to lead Shawano to a 42-7 win over Green Bay West. Coming into the game, Laatsch only had rushing touchdowns, but said he was finally able to get his receivers in the game.
“We have been working on it all season, but today we were on the same page” Laatsch said of Brayden Dickelman, who caught two of the touchdown passes in the second quarter, giving Shawano a 21-0 lead. Dickleman scored twice through the air and once on the ground, ending with 125 yards on two catches, both for touchdowns.
“Last year we had a really strong passing game, and we knew that we could do it this year, but we saw a lot of potential from Jarrett with his legs” Shawano Coach Al Tomow said. “It was nice to see our passing game result in some scores.”
Roman Purell led the ground game with 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Shawano held a shutout until late fourth quarter when Brandon Dudley scored on a one yard run.
Shawano’s win leaves their playoff hopes in place for one final week. Shawano will need to beat New London to finish the regular season at .500 in Conference and become playoff eligible.
