The Shawano City Council approved fines for those who violate the chicken ordinance that the city has. The council was told that some people have not registered their chickens, and now could be facing a hefty fine. Six residents have been recorded to have registered their chickens, but some have not. The fines were approved to be $313 for the first offense, and $565 for the second offense within one year. The registration fee is $5 dollars per year for up to four chickens within the coop. Alderperson Rhonda Strebel said she was disheartened to hear that people are abusing the ordinance, which requires very little. “Come on folks, pay the five dollars and register your chickens” she was heard saying during the meeting.
