Steven L. Ponfil, age 46 of Angelica, formerly of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, September 8, 2017 at his home.
Steve was born June 8, 1971 in Shawano, the only son of Gerald Ponfil and Diana (Wescott) Corn. Steve attended tribal schools, graduating from Menominee Indian High School in 1989. Following school he worked for numerous businesses, including Aarowcast, Reinhart Foods, and MTE.
On June 28, 2014 he was united in marriage to the former Shelle Kindschuh in Green Bay. Following their marriage the couple lived in Green Bay and Pulaski. Steve was currently employed at Doc’s Harley-Davidson. He is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. His hobbies include carpentry, motorcycling, four wheeling, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed working outside and was a general “Mr. Fixit”. He loved to tease and make people laugh. He was strongly devoted to his wife, Shelle, and his children.
Steve is survived by his wife, Shelle, of Pulaski; his children, Ivy Rose, Jacob, and Story Ponfil; his father, Gerald (Lora) Ponfil of Shawano, and Diana (Donald) Corn of Keshena; his sisters, Becky (Roland) Smart of Neopit, Rose (Christopher) Ponfil of Shawano, and LuAnn (Craig) Richmond of Keshena; his father-in-law, David Kindschuh of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Susan (Terry) Mittelstaedt and Andrea (Cody) Brown; numerous aunts and uncles; special nephews, Keenan, Vance, and Evan Richmond, and Douglas, Landon, and Ayden Mittelstaedt; and a great-niece, Kendall Richmond. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Florence Ponfil, and Earl and Rosene Wescott; his mother-in-law, Julie Kindschuh; and a nephew, Kyle Richmond.
A Funeral Mass for Steven L. Ponfil will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 12:00 PM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Fr. Francis Zurbano will be the Celebrant. Relatives and friends may call at the Menominee Tribal Community Center in Neopit on Monday after 2:00 PM until the time of Mass on Tuesday. A parish wake service will be held on Monday at 7:00 PM at the Community Center.
