A former Oconto County Fairest of the Fair is having her life remembered with a garden in Waukesha.
Bethany Rieth was 24 years old when she died in a skiing accident last year. The Oconto Falls graduate was a state champion in track and field, a homecoming queen and the Oconto County Fairest of the Fair in 2011.
The garden in Bethany’s honor was created by volunteers at the Brain Injury Resource Center in Waukesha.
Bethany graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015 with a nursing degree. Her brother Gary suffered from a brain injury, which led to her passion to help in that field.
The press release states the garden will be a place to reflect, laugh and spend time with others, all things that those who knew Bethany say she did well.
