Tuesday afternoon, the Seymour Police Department was contacted by a concerned citizen regarding a group of door-to-door salespeople. The initial report stated the suspects were selling cleaning products and using what could be described as aggressive sales tactics. A group of four suspects were stopped and identified. All of them were from out of state, and the vehicle they were using has Idaho license plates. The suspects did not have any company issued identification. Some did not have any state issued identification and were fingerprinted with the assistance of Freedom Police Department’s mobile fingerprint scanner. The Seymour Police Department reminds the public that in Freedom, Seymour, Black Creek and Shiocton it is illegal to solicit door to door without a permit. The permitting process includes background checks and assures that the sellers follow guidelines as dictated by the individual municipalities. They remind residents that if someone comes to your door soliciting or peddling products be sure to inquire if they have a permit, ask to see a company ID card and use your best judgement before inviting them inside your home. Some burglars are known to pose as salesmen in order to gain information or “case” a residence for future crimes.
