The Shawnao Area Community Foundation is accepting grant applications until Oct. 1 from eligible and charitable organizations serving in Shawano County. Those eligible must be designated by the IRS to be public charities.
“They have to put in there what [the funds] are going to be used for,” said Gail Bartz, Committee Chair of the Shawano Area Community Foundation. “They have to give us their funding, like a budget for it, have they gotten other money from other groups, that’s one of the questions on the form. If for some reason it doesn’t go through, they have to return the funds and they we re-award it.”
Last year the foundation awarded grants totaling $23,307 were awarded to 8 charitable organizations: Bonduel Area Emergency Medical Services, Bridge the Gap, Navarino Nature Center, Pella First Responders, Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Support Center, Unity Hospice, Walls of Wittenberg and Wolf River Habitat for Humanity.
The grants went to support projects or programs in the areas of arts and culture, health, human service, community development, education and the environment.
