The Gresham School Board made the official hiring to fill its music teaching positions, which was made vacant after they accepted the resignation of Timothy Schmidt in May, after he was charged with 31 felony counts related to child sex crimes and child pornography.
Schmidt has a jury trial scheduled in August.
Meanwhile, the board approved the hire of Allison Baranczyk, who will serve as the elementary music, high school choir and high school band teacher.
The district says they’re thrilled to be able to bring someone who is certified for both the band and choir position.
“For us as a small district, you can’t hire a full-time choir director and a full-time band [teacher], so that becomes difficult for us,” said Gresham School Board member Pat Pleshek. “To be able to find this woman to be able to come in with both certifications is just a wonderful blessing for us.”
Baranczyk is from De Pere and graduated from St. Norbert College in the spring of 2017 with a major in music education.
