A total of 1,012 child predators in 40 states were placed behind bars as part of a two-month Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force sting earlier this spring called Operation Broken Heart. There were over 80 people arrested in Wisconsin over April and May, including 16 suspects in Brown, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan and Winnebago counties during a week-long operation called New Hope. Five of those suspects had been previous registered sex offenders, like 31-year-old Jeffery Vadnais-Speck of Shawano, who was on probation for felony child enticement at the time of his latest arrest. In a letter, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel says there is no higher charge in his capacity than to lock up sexual predators and empower local law enforcement to do the same.
