Local teams had a strong showing at the first weekend of Shawano Youth League tournament play. The 8U Baseball and 10U and 12U Softball teams played opening weekend.
8U
The Shawano 8U Baseball team fell to De Pere 10-2 in the first round game, but bounced back with wins against Suburban Neenah and Black Creek and Saturday. The 2-1 pool play record put Shawano in the third place game against Little Chute. Shawano won the game to claim their second third place title of the year.
Bonduel advanced to the Championship game by winning their pool over Little Chute, Oconto and Shawano Black. Bonduel lost to De Pere in the Championship game. De Pere was unbeaten to win the title.

Shawano Red had a strong start to the tournament with a 7-2 win over Waupaca and a win over Oconto, but fell to West De Pere in what ended up being the Pool Championship game. Tie Breaker procedures placed Shawano 5th and West De Pere 4th in bracket play, setting up a rematch Sunday morning. Shawano earned the win 6-1, but fell to Plover in the Semifinal. Shawano beat Appleton North 6-1 for third place.
Winneconne avenged an earlier loss to Plover in Pool Play by beating them for the Tournament Championship.

Shawano lost an opening game to Pulaski and beat Winneconne 10-6 to get the fifth seed. Shawano lost to New London in an elimination game. New London went on to beat Appleton North in the Championship. Pulaski finished 4th.

9U Baseball
Shawano came away with a tournament championship in Pulaski over the weekend. Shawano swept Pool Play with a 9-2 win over Wisconsin Rapids White and a 15-6 win over DC Everest. Shawano beat Bay Port 12-3 in the Championship.
