John J. Mast, age 73, New London, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. He was born on May 27, 1944, in Johnson County Iowa, son of the late Joseph and Mattie (Yoder) Mast. On April 5, 1997, he was united in marriage to Brenda Luckjohn (Scheibinger) in Waupaca. John loved golf and formerly helped out at Cedar Springs Golf Course in Manawa. He was a founder of the backpack New London project and was compassionate about helping people that are less fortunate. He was an avid Vikings fan. John was a huge supporter of the military and veterans.
He is survived by his wife Brenda; children: Teresa (Freeman) Cobletz; Christina (Daniel) Bontrager; Emma (Aarron) Schmucker; Laura (Rudy) Wickey; Waneta (Marvin) Schrock; Lizzie (Levi) Schmucker; and John (Dolly) Mast. John is further survived by forty-six grandchildren, five brother, five sisters, many other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Andrew, two grandchildren, a brother and second wife Emma.
Funeral services for John will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Springs, (E7005 Cedar Springs Road) Manawa with Rev. David Uden and Rev. Larry Bong officiating. Burial will be in the Symco Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cedar Springs from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
