Plans to install new playground equipment at Franklin Park in New London have once again been delayed. Recent rains over the past couple of weeks have kept the ground still too soft.
“As of right now, we need to go into the site yet and drill all the holes for the posts,” said New London Park and Rec Director Chad Hoerth. “We have about 50 posts that need to be installed for the project. We want to have all those holes pre-drilled and leveled off before we do our main playground build, so we need time to do that first before we actually hold the build.”
This is the second time a scheduled build has been delayed because of ground conditions. Hoerth adds there hasn’t been another date scheduled as of yet, but they’re hoping for a stretch of dry weather first.
“Obviously, the 4th of July week is going to be kind of tough too with the holiday, but we just need time to do it, mother nature to cooperate and we can get in there and get it done.”
Volunteers are being sought to help install the equipment. You can do so by calling the New London Park and Rec Department after a date is set at (920) 982-8521.
Lunch, snacks and water will be provided when the date is set.
