A Wittenberg man who was shot by authorities in February was in Shawano County Court for a preliminary hearing Thursday. 53-year-old Daniel Onesti has been charged with felony counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and fleeing an officer back in March. Two Shawano County Sheriff’s Deputies testified Onesti refused to pull over for authorities, driving less than a mile from a field near his home to his residence on County Road D. While on his property, deputies testified that Onesti drove around multiple barn buildings, eventually ramming a squad vehicle, pushing it back about 30 feet and causing minor injuries to Deputy David Rogers. Deputy Rogers also testified that Onesti continued to accelerate his vehicle after causing severe damage to the front end of the squad car. Onesti’s attorney Peter Karoblis, asked Judge James Habeck for dismissal of both felony charges, but to no avail. Onesti is scheduled to be arraigned in court July 11.
